Independent label Matador has had a promotional video for the new song by Perfume Genius rejected by YouTube, due to the fact that the 16-second clip has the band’s singer Mike Hadreas embracing male porn star Arpad Miklos – even though both men have kept their pants on. Pitchfork explains that Matador was sent this message from YouTube: “Any ads that contain non family safe material are disapproved. I noted to the team that the people in the video are not entirely unclothed, but the overall feeling of the video is one of a more adult nature, including promoting mature sexual themes and what appears to be nude content. As such, the video is non family safe. In order to have this video ad approved, you will need to bring it into compliance with our policy.” The problem being that – according to Matador – the label’s attempts to find out how to bring the video into compliance have gone unanswered.
