Just in time for Midem, collecting society PRS for Music has announced that its Independent Music Publishers’ European Licensing (IMPEL) initiative has processed royalties of more than £1m since its launch in 2010. IMPEL is all about licensing Anglo-American online and mobile mechanical rights to pan-European digital services. PRS has just signed up the first US publisher for IMPEL, Spirit Music Group, while also adding Imagem to its list of ‘Friends of IMPEL’. “Progress was slow after launch in 2010, but significant improvements were made in 2011 delivering a boost in monies distributed and improvements in administration,” says PRS’ director of media licensing William Booth. “We look forward to building on this throughout 2012.”
