While CEO Daniel Ek was holding court before the Grammys, Spotify’s developers were rolling out an update to the company’s iPhone app that delivers a significant boost to its audio quality. Users previously had a choice of Low Bandwidth or High Bandwidth streaming, depending whether they wanted to save on data usage or enjoy higher audio quality. Now there’s a third option: ‘Extreme’. It enables Spotify users to stream music at 320kpbs, double the quality of the High Bandwidth mode. While we’d hesitate to trigger it when on a 3G network, the new feature appears tailor-made for users connecting their iPhone to a hi-fi dock. Music can also be synced to the device at 320kbps.
