A new Microsoft music service? Hang on, it already has an old one: its Zune Music Pass, which runs across PCs, Xbox 360 consoles and Windows Phones. Even so, CNET claims Microsoft is working on something new, and is “in talks with some of the major record companies about creating a new music service” that would focus on the company’s console and smartphone businesses. The report describes talks as “still in a preliminary stage”, but outlines “a service that it hopes could launch sometime this year and include streaming music as well as downloads”. HTC and Nokia may be involved, creating music-focused smartphones that will provide access to the new service.
