Apple is launching a push for the Mastered for iTunes section of its iTunes Store – the area focusing on albums that have been “specially tuned for higher fidelity to bring you the best possible listening experience on your computer, stereo and all Apple devices”. The Recent Releases section highlights iTunes-mastered albums from Coldplay, Paul McCartney, Jane’s Addiction, Amy Winehouse and Trent Reznor & Atticus among others. Separately, Universal Music Group has announced that albums from artists including Madonna, U2, John Coltrane and Bon Jovi have been mastered for iTunes. There’s a classical angle too: the London Symphony Orchestra’s LSO Live label has released 16 albums mastered with iTunes in mind, with producer James Mallinson saying that “Bypassing the inadequacies of CD-quality masters and focusing on the way people listen to music today allows us to produce recordings which are far more natural.”
