Got any plans for 7pm GMT this Friday? If not, how about staying in to watch an online concert including an instrument that hasn’t been heard since the days of Ancient Greece? Well, we’ve got just the thing: just such a gig is being streamed by Italian research and education network GARR, with the instrument being the Epigonion. It’s a wooden string instrument that sounds a bit like a harp or harpsichord, if you’re wondering. It’s been recreated using cutting-edge computer modelling technology, and will be played alongside modern instruments at the concert. Presumably it’s only a matter of time before an Epigonion iPhone app turns up too.
