Lyrics startup musiXmatch says its mobile apps have been downloaded more than 3m times across iOS, Android, Windows Phone 7 and Symbian. The app lets people search for lyrics, and on iOS also scans their music library to match it with lyrics in musiXmatch’s catalogue. However, the Android version of the app is getting some new Shazam-style identification features, announced alongside the 3m milestone. The app is using Gracenote’s MusicID technology for the identification, listening to a song that’s playing, and then serving up lyrics if it’s identified and in the catalogue. “In less than six months, the musiXmatch Lyrics mobile application has reached over 300% growing rate, with incredibly high consumption and positive feedback by end users,” says CEO Max Ciociola.
