US artist Chamillionaire has launched a music store on his own website and Facebook page. He’s using Moontoast’s distributed store platform and PayPal for the purchasing mechanism. The new ‘Ammunition’ album comes out in March, and is being sold D2C as a $5.99 download or a $24.99 CD + Download + T-shirt bundle. PayPal’s director of product management, digital goods, Mary Ku hails Chamillionaire and comedian Louis CK for their D2C strategies. “Artists like him and Chamillionaire are showing the world how there is a viable business model in bypassing traditional media channels and going directly to consumers, thus retaining total control and ownership over their work (not to mention giving consumers a better deal),” she writes.
