Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo sold 100m tickets for concerts and other live events in 2011 through its Boardwalk platform, which used a mixture of RFID and QR code technology. Now it’s taking the platform global, aiming to sell it to other operators and companies around the world. The company is showing off the technology at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, including new features to use NFC technology. People can touch their phones to a poster to get information on gig tickets, then buy them on the phone. That mobile ticket can then be scanned on the way into the venue – again using NFC.
