Japanese mobile operator NTT DoCoMo sold 100m tickets for concerts and other live events in 2011 through its Boardwalk platform, which used a mixture of RFID and QR code technology. People can touch their phones to a poster to get information on gig tickets, then buy them on the phone. That mobile ticket can then be scanned on the way into the venue – again using NFC.
