Megaupload founder Kim Dotcom remains a free (bailed) man, after a US bid to send him back to jail in New Zealand was rejected by the High Court there. Dotcom remains under virtual house arrest in his mansion, with an extradition hearing set for late August. There is also some new insight into his lifestyle, after Dotcom asked the court to release NZ$220k of his personal funds (around $183k) for living expenses. His application stated that he pays NZ$1m a year to lease the mansion, and NZ$600k on maintenance and property costs, as well as NZ$50k a month on a nanny, a tutor, personal assistants and four bodyguards. The court released an interim payment of NZ$32k to help with immediate living costs before making a final decision.
