Remember the days when the LulzSec group of hackers were running riot online, as a splinter group from the Anonymous movement? There was big news yesterday, when the FBI revealed that LulzSec’s ‘Sabu’ – often described as the group’s leader – has been working as an informer for the last six months. Five of his former colleagues have been arrested for computer hacking offences, reports The Guardian. Sabu – real name Hector Xavier Monsegur – isn’t getting off scott free though: he’s been charged with 12 criminal counts of conspiracy to engage in computer hacking and other crimes, with a potential 124-year jail term. “This is devastating to the organisation … we’re chopping off the head of LulzSec,” says one FBI official.
