New York’s Metropolitan Opera has a new iPad app that offers streaming videos of hundreds of performances for subscribers. They include productions from its Live in HD series of transmissions, as well as concerts from the archives between 1977 and 2001. There are also more than 250 radio broadcasts dating back to 1936 “representing nearly all of the most popular operas ever composed and many of the greatest singers in the Met’s history”. The app is free to download, but it requires a Met Opera on Demand subscription from the existing web service. That costs $14.99 a month or $149.99 a year, with the subscription handled on the Met Opera’s site, rather than through Apple’s iTunes system.
