Call it an intimate online gig or bespoke busking if you like: singer/songwriter Denison Witmer is playing songs for individual fans on Skype video calls, and charging $25 a go. Mashable has a report on the experience, which involves Witmer performing a song of the fan’s choice, and chatting to them. “I do these shows all over my house, it just depends on what day of the week it is and what I’m feeling,” he says. “I don’t think this is for everyone. There’s a certain amount of gutsiness to call up somebody you don’t know on Skype. It takes a certain personality type.” Witmer hit on the idea after the birth of his son last year, which led him to take a break from physical touring. He’s performed around 20 Skype shows so far. It’s an evolution of the idea of using ChatRoulette (remember that?) for impromptu one-on-one performances, or more recently the experimentation by some artists with Google+ Hangouts.
