It’s turning into a helluva year for Finnish startup Ovelin, with its WildChords iPad music app winning this week’s SXSW Accelerator music tech contest. That follows its category-winning showing at Midemlab earlier this year, as well as a $1.4m funding round in February (Bulletin, 9-Feb-12). WildChords took the SXSW honours ahead of Rexly and 45 Sound, with music marketing site OneSheet winning a separate Bootstrap Award. As we’ve reported before, WildChords is a music education app for iPad, skewed to a younger audience. It teaches people to strum chords on a real guitar, analysing their skill and timing using the microphone, and rewarding them within an animal-collecting game.
