Warner Music Group has launched its Staged web series on its The Warner Sound YouTube channel. The idea: “comedic and dramatic scenes driven by the lyrics of Warner Music’s top artists”, starting with a 1960s-style spy thriller based on the lyrics of Gym Class Heroes. Yes, our mind is boggling at the prospect too, but not as much as at the forthcoming CeeLo Green episode starring WWE wrestler Bill Goldberg. “This extraordinary show is a great example of what’s possible with our channel: it’s an imaginative idea, with music in its DNA, which is brilliantly executed with a YouTube audience in mind,” says The Warner Sound’s general manager Ocean MacAdams. The label worked with Principato-Young Entertainment and Koda Pictures on the series. At the time of writing, 17 hours after its launch, the first Staged episode has been watched just over 3,700 times according to YouTube, but give it time.
