We’ve written about games developer OMGPOP a couple of times in recent weeks: once about its runaway mobile game hit Draw Something (Bulletin, 19-Mar-12), and also about its plans to make social game Streets with members of the Wu Tang Clan (Bulletin, 21-Mar-12). Well, now it’s been bought by Zynga for a rumoured $210m. The acquisition was announced last night, and it’s really all about Zynga getting its hands on Draw Something (35m downloads and 13.3m daily active users just seven weeks after launch) before rivals did. It remains to be seen whether Streets will be killed before launch, if Draw Something is the focus. Incidentally, we first wrote about OMGPOP back in 2009, when it made a web music game called Hit Machine (Bulletin, 26-Aug-09). It’ll be interesting to see if it brings those music instincts to its new position as a Zynga studio.
