US band They Might Be Giants have launched a new version of their Instant Fan Club for 2012. A regular membership costs $95, and will provide content and products throughout the year: a vinyl EP, live CD, bumper sticker and t-shirt in July; followed by more vinyl and – YES! – a “blue canary nightlight” in October. There will also be exclusive webcasts including a New Year’s Eve concert, and a launch-day download of the band’s new album early in 2013. An additional $250 ‘Super Presidents’ tier gets fans a personalised ringtone recorded by the band including their name; credit in the new album; a commemorative coin and cloth patch, and a signed album. “While it is no secret the music industry has crumbled to dust in recent years, we here at They Might be Giants are hanging on to the notion that our professional future is secure through the patronage of the Instant Fan Club,” explains the band.
