Here’s an interesting tipping point in the consoles world: the average US household with an Xbox 360 spends 84 hours a month it, with just over half that time spent watching videos and listening to music rather than playing games. “What we’re seeing is that people are turning on the Xbox to play games and then keeping it on afterwards to get other types of entertainment,” Microsoft’s Yusuf Mehdi tells the Los Angeles Times. Entertainment apps including Netflix, ESPN, Hulu, Vudu and YouTube are cited as key reasons, with Vevo and the BBC’s iPlayer having also launched recently on Xbox Live.
