Fan-funding service Kickstarter has published an interesting blog post digging into the impact of two recent high-profile projects: game Double Fine Adventure and web-comic Order of the Stick, which raised $3.3m and $1.3m respectively. The emphasis of the post is that these projects are a tide that’s rising other boats on Kickstarter. “One project’s backer isn’t another project’s loss. The backers that one project brings often end up backing other projects as well. Each project is not only promoting itself, but the Kickstarter ecosystem as a whole.” So the 62k first-time backers who funded Double Fine Adventure went on to pledge another $875k to other projects, including $12k for music. The 11k first-time backers who funded Order of the Stick went on to pledge $206k to other projects, including $3k to music.
