Clear Channel is delaying the introduction of ads to its iHeartRadio online radio service, citing complaints about rival Pandora’s ads as the reason. The company previously said the relaunched iHeartRadio would only be ad-free until 1 April (Bulletin, 9-Sep-11), but that has now been pushed back. “There are a lot of negative comments about in-stream ads,” CEO Bob Pittman tells Billboard. “When you’re in your music collection, you want to escape from the world. It’s a completely different experience [from traditional radio].” The question now is how Clear Channel can implement advertising that doesn’t irk its free listeners.
