Yes, there is lots of Pandora-related news today, what with the company’s latest figures and upcoming competition from Rdio. Another startup looking to disrupt Pandora’s business is more of a straight competitor: Raditaz. It’s just inked a deal with The Echo Nest to beef up the personalisation features in its web version, as well as its iOS and Android apps. That means users will be able to adjust artist and song popularity in their personal stations, for example. “The ability to swap out artists and adjust popularity to drive new music discovery flips the Pandora model on its head, putting the personalization in the users’ hands, rather than at the mercy of an algorithm driven by limited data, with access to a small pool of songs” claims Raditaz. Bold words, but it’s early days for the service, with a long way to go to get anywhere near Pandora’s 51m active users.
