It’s a year since YouTube launched its YouTube Live feature for partners who want to livestream their broadcasts (or, indeed, gigs). The company has celebrated by launching some new features that could be very useful for artists and labels, including software called Wirecast for YouTube Live to “produce and stream professional-looking live events directly to YouTube from your desktop”. It’s free for YouTube partners. Meanwhile, there are new real-time analytics to pore over while livestreaming. Most important, though, is the option to make money from live streams using ads or pay-per-view payments. “A live event can be claimed in the new video manager like any other video and monetized with instream ads or paid options where you can set price by country,” explains YouTube partner product manager Varun Talwar. For now, paid live events are available in the US, UK, Canada, Japan and France.
