You may have caught the buzz around a new Bob Marley documentary called ‘Marley’, directed by Kevin Macdonald. Its US theatrical release is on 20 April, but in a first, it will be made available to watch on Facebook the same day, through a deal with Milyoni. The film will be streamable on the official Bob Marley Facebook page for a fee of $6.99, paid via PayPal or credit card. It’ll be using Milyoni’s ‘Social Cinema’ platform too, so fans can chat with one another and share/tag clips while watching. A portion of the revenues will go to the Save The Children charity, too. With 37m fans of the page, it’s a big potential audience. Milyoni is the company that has worked with artists including Parlotones and Widespread Panic on paid webcasts through Facebook, although in October last year publishing issues nixed its planned livestream of a Michael Jackson tribute concert (Bulletin, 10-Oct-11).
