Now get set for hologram Tupac to go on tour

It seems the hologrammatic Tupac Shakur who took last weekend’s Coachella festival by storm may not have rapped his last. Perhaps inevitably, there is now talk of a tour, with the Wall Street Journal reporting that “Representatives for Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg plan to discuss logistics for a tour involving the two performers and the virtual Tupac”. The paper talked to Ed Ulbrich, chief creative officer of the company behind the technology, Digital Domain. “This is just the beginning. Dre has a massive vision for this.” Billboard has some additional detail on the legal status of the projected Tupac, quoting entertainment lawyer Donald Passman. He notes that the performance “had to have started with some image of Tupac, and somebody would own that image… I guess if I represented him I would want a good sized fee for it because it’s an element of the show. And I could go anywhere from what I would charge as a live artist to show up as a guest down to what I would charge to do a lighting design.”
