Developer Curious Sense has launched its long-awaited Grateful Dead social game, which was announced more than a year ago (Bulletin, 14-Jan-11). Reuters has an update on ‘Grateful Dead Game: The Epic Tour’, which went live on Friday. The game is based on 10 of the band’s best gigs between 1970 and 1990 (as chosen by fans), and it’s fair to say it’s faithful to the spirit of the band. Or, as Reuters explains it: “Players move from venue to venue, joining forces to shine the Dead’s ‘love light’ in dark places. The ‘light’ represents the collective ‘positive vibe’ of the Dead, and it becomes a beacon as players show acts of kindness, cooperation and cultivation of flower gardens.” We don’t think there’s a deathmatch mode. Curious Sense is keen to stress the merits of this kind of game for music artists. “We create a new way to experience music through immersive gaming – re-packaging the album as a game,” says boss Adam Blumenthal.
