Jay-Z is the latest artist to appear in a Facebook game, Empire. The game puts you in the shoes of a budding rapper and hip-hop entrepreneur, working your way up with rap battles, mixtapes, jobs and, er, visiting your mother. That’s the first task, at least. The game borrows a number of gameplay tics from titles like FarmVille and CityVille, and looks loosely based on Jay-Z’s own career. Virtual items – Empire Cash is the name of the in-game currency – provides the business model – and there appears to be use of Spotify’s Play button, cueing up Jay-Z’s Hard Knock Life as we played for the first time this morning. The game is in beta for now.
