Music videos service Vevo has announced plans for six new original series to be screened on its network. The shows were unveiled at the company’s ‘upfront’ presentation for potential advertisers. The shows include reality contest Busk or Bust; humorous album-covers series Cover Stories; musical dating show Hear Me Out; documentaries Sound + City and You Play Like a Girl; and comedy Strange Island (“Flight of the Conchords meets Glee, living somewhere between Gilligan’s Island and Fantasy Island” according to Billboard). Advertising trade magazine AdWeek was impressed, suggesting that of the various digital video companies, Vevo “might be able to make the best case of anybody” to attract ad budgets from traditional TV. That was bolstered by stats showing 250m unique visitors to Vevo’s network a month, and plans to deliver 36bn video views this year. The company also claims that its video ads have a 90% completion rate.
