Walking into a shop and asking to buy a vinyl record? Pfft. Old hat. The hot new thing is using a smartphone app to scan vinyl covers displayed in the windows of clothing shops, in order to purchase the LP on the phone and have it sent via snail mail to your house. Isn’t it? Well, that’s the idea for a new partnership between Universal Music UK and Pretty Green, the fashion range launched by Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher. They’re working with mobile payments firm Mobile Money Network on the campaign, which will see 10 pop-up shops in Pretty Green outlets around the UK between 24 May and 10 June. Albums featured include cutting-edge glitchstep, avant-garde classical fusion and… Oh, alright, it’s the Rolling Stones, The Who, Paul Weller, Ian Brown and Paul McCartney. Gentle ribbing aside, it’s nice to see vinyl returning to high-street windows, even for a limited period.
