The Official Charts Company has announced the first Official Streaming Chart Top 100, with Carly Rae Jepsen topping the list with ‘Call Me Maybe’. PaidContent has some good analysis of the chart versus its downloads equivalent, noting that the UK’s number one single by downloads is Rita Ora, which only comes in at number 44 in the streaming chart. Ed Sheeran is a big winner from streaming with seven entries in the streaming top 100 versus three in the downloads chart. 17 hit songs in the downloads top 40 have charted higher in the streaming list, but there are also entries for Lana Del Rey, Coldplay, Rihanna, The Script and Usher that don’t figure in the downloads chart. “It shows the true longevity of a track in the life of a music fan beyond a track purchase,” says a spokesperson.
