Buying 250 fans for your Facebook page for just $30? It sounds too good to be true, mainly because… well, it’s not true. BetaBeat has a good piece on a company called Bulkfans, which promises to deliver the fans for $30. The tech blog signed up, and found some quirks – many of its new fans were distinctly fake. “Note to Donette Morency: Did anyone ever mention you bear an uncanny resemblance to Lindsay Lohan, circa Mean Girls?” it suggests, dryly. “Another one of Betabeat’s new fans, Kallie Hoots, lives in Newark and is a student at Rutgers. She only has five Facebook friends, all attractive young women whose photos look as though they were professionally shot.” And one friend turned out to be using the photo of a completely unrelated (and not impressed when told) science writer.
