Clear Channel is trumpeting the latest stats for its iHeartRadio service from the rooftops, having signed up 10m registered users in the last eight months: “faster than all other popular entertainment and communication platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, Pandora, Spotify and Instagram” as its press release puts it. A lot more people are using iHeartRadio in truth – registration is only required to use its Custom Station feature – the overall network had more than 45m monthly digital unique users in April this year. The news looks like a direct response to Pandora’s recent announcement that it has more than 150m registered users, with 51.9m active listeners in April. The battle between the two personal radio services looks set to rage for some time yet.
