If Pipe isn’t on the creative industries’ radars yet, rest assured it will be soon. A Facebook-fuelled filesharing services that lets people squirt files of up to 1GB directly to friends’ desktops? That’s fairly disruptive. Pipe is launching soon, having been developed by a Berlin-based startup, with its founders previously responsible for digital music service Songbeat. “The inspiration subconsciously came from Super Mario. Mario jumps in one pipe, appears out of another, and that’s all you need to know. And that’s what Pipe is,” they tell The Verge. And that’s literally true: users drag files onto a green pipe on their computer screen, and they appear at the other end for whatever friend they’re being sent to. “We are very clear in our terms and conditions that we are focused on legal use of this technology…”
