It’s a dreadful word, phablet, invented to describe devices like the Samsung Galaxy Note that are larger than a phone but smaller than a tablet. Even so, ABI Research thinks that in 2015, more than 208m of them will be shipped, with HTC, LG and Huawei all joining Samsung in the market this year. These will all be running Google’s Android OS, so supporting them isn’t a major headache for music services and app developers. That said, if ABI Research’s growth forecast is accurate, it might be a good idea for these companies to start thinking about how to make best use of those larger screens.
All hail the rise of the ‘phablet’
