The excitement around Foursquare hasn’t dropped off, exactly, but the social location app seems less of a revolution nowadays, and more part of a wider tapestry of innovation around location based services. Even so, the company is still keen to push its uses for entertainment and music, publishing a blog post hailing Maroon 5 and Olly Murs for their use of Foursquare to connect with fans. Maroon 5 is the more interesting example: sending fans to payphones across the US (“they still exist!”) to check in, and get free remix downloads of their new single.
