Google is regularly criticised for not doing enough to fight online piracy through its search results, but the internet giant is taking action on another front: YouTube piracy. Google has threatened to sue popular site YouTube-MP3, which rips audio from YouTube videos and makes it available as downloads – attracting 1.3m daily visitors. Google says the site is flouting the conditions of YouTube’s API, with TorrentFreak reporting that the company is sending similar letters to other YouTube audio-ripping sites. Perhaps inevitably, if you type ‘youtube mp3s’ into Google’s search engine, YouTube-MP3 is still the top result.
