Well, let’s not get ahead of ourselves here: one of the eight companies vying to administer .music domain names is Far Further, which is backed by a host of industry bodies including ASCAP, AIM, IFPI, NARM and the RIAA. Its plan: to only allow registrants who have “membership in at least one existing association related to the creation and support of music” – with the renewal of their domain requiring this membership to be continued. A big deal? We suspect companies on the margins like Grooveshark will simply stick with their existing domains.
