We’ve had Spotify apps from discovery services, media, brands and labels. Now it’s time for some artists to get involved. Four have launched apps on Spotify’s desktop platform: Quincy Jones, Tiësto, Rancid and Disturbed (SUPERGROUP KLAXON!). Spotify says more are coming. Jones’ app mixes audio anecdotes with playlists from his career as a producer; Tiësto is curating his favourite dance tunes; Rancid is doing the same thing for punk; and Disturbed for rock and metal. An interesting idea, focusing on artists as genre-curators, rather than simply pushing their own music. The first three are available globally, but we can’t spot the Disturbed one here in the UK just yet.
