Google’s decision to take action against sites that helped people rip audio from YouTube videos was welcomed by music rightsholders, but an online petition protesting against it has attracted more than 212k signatures. The petition compares YouTube-audio ripping to early cassette and video recorders used for radio and TV. “All these techniques have been opposed heavily in its early years by the big media companies who didn’t want the public to have such technology… Several years later history is about to repeat.”
