While there isn’t a direct music aspect to the BBC’s R&D work on ‘Perceptive Media’, we think it may spark some ideas for digital music services. The idea, as paraphrased by TheNextWeb : “Media – either video or audio – that adapts itself based on information it knows about individual viewers”. TVs that know who’s watching/listening, and adapt content accordingly – including gauging the tastes of a group of people and serving up something they’ll all (hopefully) like. There’s a simple demo online, but we think these ideas have potential for digital music too – from connected hi-fis like Sonos through to individual services like Spotify and Pandora.
