One month ago, Sean Parker unveiled his new startup Airtime at a star-studded press launch. So how is it doing? Weeeelll… The Facebook-fuelled video-chatting service has 9,000 daily active users and 200,000 monthly active users, which is hardly the viral success Parker and his former Napster cohort Shawn Fanning would have been hoping for. A sharp spike in users following the launch has flattened right out. While Airtime has potential for artists looking for fun ways to connect with fans, something like Google+’s Hangouts might offer more scale for the time being.
