175m children around the world have registered for a Club Penguin account in the last six years. The virtual world – owned by Disney since 2007 – now has digital music ambitions. Later this month, Club Penguin is releasing a song on iTunes by DJ Cadence, complete with a video starring its Penguin characters. We met co-founder Lane Merrifield last night at a conference in Sheffield, and he told us the deal came through Walt Disney Records. It follows rival virtual world Moshi Monsters’ own move into digital music earlier in the year, as well as a separate Disney partnership to release a song based on kid-apps brand Talking Tom Cat.
