Every few months, Facebook is rumoured to be working on its own smartphone. Now that rumour at least as something to alternate with: speculation that Amazon, too, is working on its own handset. Bloomberg is responsible for the rumour, citing “two people with knowledge of the matter” in its report on Amazon’s plans. It suggests the plan, as with the Kindle Fire tablet, is to get hardware out into the market that will support Amazon’s e-books, music and TV/film stores.
