Forget that old guff about two turntables and a microphone: music apps developer Smule has a new smartphone app that (in theory) turns anyone into a rapper. It’s called AutoRap, and just came out for iOS and Android. “It turns speech into rap, and corrects bad rapping,” explains its app store listing. The idea being that people rap along to licensed beats and songs by the likes of Snoop Dogg, Nicki Minaj and Outkast, and the app then snaps their voice to the beat, with a touch of Auto-Tune-style sonic manipulation. A new twist on the company’s success with its I Am T-Pain app back in 2009 (Bulletin, 4-Sep-09).
