In its recent financial results, Apple said that its App Store now has more than 650,000 iOS apps available. Yet according to analysis from analytics startup Adeven, as many as 400,000 of those apps get no downloads at all and are invisible to users – “zombies” in the company’s words. “The reality is there are only a couple of thousand apps that really make some kind of downloads,” says CEO Christian Henschel. “The top 25 tend to be the same companies who spend millions of dollars to get to the top of those lists. If you’re an independent, small app publisher, then it’s really tough to be discovered.” Not news, as such, but a salutary reminder.
