With Q2 financials out of the way, the analysts are calculating market shares for various industries. Canalys has numbers on global smartphone shipments by platform, claiming that Android accounted for 68.1% of them in Q2 (108m), followed by iPhone (16.4% – 26m), BlackBerry (5.4% – 8.5m), Symbian (4.1% – 6.4m) and Windows Phone (3.2% – 5.1m). Meanwhile, IDC has been analysing tablet shipments, estimating that Apple’s iPad took a 68.2% share globally with 17m devices, a long way ahead of Samsung (9.6% – 2.4m), Amazon’s Kindle Fire (5% – 1.3m) and Asus (3.4% – 855k). Overall, IDC says 25m tablets shipped in Q2, up 66.2% year-on-year.
