British retailer HMV announced yesterday that its CEO Simon Fox is leaving the company in early September. A replacement has already been confirmed: Trevor Moore, who used to run camera retailer Jessops. Fox had overseen a shift in strategy for HMV’s 233 stores to concentrate more on hardware sales – including headphones and tablets – to make up for sliding sales of CDs and DVDs. It remains to be seen if Moore can come up with a more convincing strategy in the digital music space: despite a stake in 7digital, HMV hasn’t made a big impact against competition from iTunes and streaming services.
