Indian download service Flyte, launched by ecommerce giant Flipkart in February, has notched up 600,000 download sales in six months, with sales now averaging 5,000 tracks a day. That might sound small beer for a country of some 1.2bn inhabitants but it is worth bearing in mind that 75% of digital sales in India in 2010 were of ringback tones and the country has a massive problem with piracy, which is estimated to cost its media and entertainment industries $4bn every year.
