Mobile phone sales fell 2% in the second quarter of 2012, according to analyst Gartner, with 419m devices sold. Of these, 36.7% were smartphones, sales of which increased 42.7% year on year. Android devices accounted for 64% of the smartphone market, compared to 43.4% a year ago, while the iPhone’s market share was relatively static at 18.8%, as consumers apparently hold out for the imminent new model.
