The reverberations from Google’s decision to demote piracy websites in its search engine results continue. RapidShare is protesting that the real problem isn’t cyberlocker sites like itself, but rather the sites created to provide links to copyrighted content stored on them. In a letter to the US government, the company urges that “Rather than enacting legislation that could stifle innovation in the cloud, the U.S. government should crack down on this critical part of the online piracy network. These very sophisticated websites, often featuring advertising, facilitate the mass indiscriminate distribution of copyrighted content on the Internet and should be the focus of US intellectual property enforcement efforts.”
