In 2011, we wrote about music startup MXP4’s pivot into a social games publisher – an intriguing attempt to bring Zynga-style business models to the music industry, complete with high-profile partnerships with David Guetta and EMI. So how’s that going? Not so well. While researching an upcoming Sandbox feature on music and social games, we checked MXP4’s stats on the AppData website, which draws its data directly from Facebook. Overall, MXP4’s social games have 255k monthly active users (MAUs) and 15k daily active users (DAUs), with its flagship BAppopler Games on 160k MAUs and 9k DAUs, and its Bopler Tap Tour game on 70k MAUs and 5k DAUs. Artist-focused games are much lower: less than 1,300 MAUs for David Guetta, Play With It! and three MAUs for Ministry of Sound, Play With It!
